Default Rant: Why can't I use my notebook computer in my room!?

Honestly, I don't understand my parents logic on this problem.
( Neither on any other problems... ) stupid Asian parents... >.>

I got myself a notebook computer a year ago. It's a gaming computer to be exact... worth $1800 ( they didn't want to spend that much money
on me, so I worked very hard, earned the money when I was working as a game master, and spent my money on that notebook. )
I would understand if they're the one who bought the computer and made some rules... but this is my hard earned money and I can't stand the fact
that I cannot enjoy having something that I really like in my own bedroom.

My brother has his notebook computer all the time in the room. My parents paid for it in advance and he's still in debt. He has to pay for his notebook
computer every month...

I find this very unacceptable! why is he allowed to have it in his room and not me!? I am not addicted to my computer, nor use it until late at night /
not sleep because of it... so what the heck is their problem!?

Their reasoning was: We cannot see you.

Ok... so if they can't see my brother, they're ok with it while if they can't see me, they're not ok with it? They don't even talk to me whenever
they're home... so what are they trying to point out!?

I've been trying to solve this problem with them but they're so hard-headed...
Bleh... so unfair. >. Does any of you have the same problem ?

Nope, my brother has his computer in his room and I keep my laptop downstairs in the basement which is basically my room. It could just be because they like you more then your brother and would rather see you then him. Perhaps?

Actually no. They favor my brother more than me. He gets away with almost
everything and I don't.

lol Sorry, my brother, who also post on these forums is 2 years younger then I am. I'm 19 he is 17. Almost 2 years exactly, I'm like 2 years and 3 weeks older then him. But I digress, honestly that could have something to do with that. He is 20, probably in college I am guessing, and you are either starting college or getting ready to head off. They have already missed their time to bond with him so maybe they are trying to not make the same mistake with you.

Parents can be pedantic sometimes. And their rules don't always make sense...

Well you see, the worst your brother can do is look at porn all day and night. You on the other hand, can be stalked by creepy old men. Which is probably why they want to make sure they can see you. I know in Australia they've got a new ad campaign telling parents to make sure they know what their kids are doing on the internet, because of pedophiles and such.

Is the problem internet related? Maybe they are just scared you will get into some kind of trouble or will download 10K songs from a file sharing site. If I had an 18 year old kid, I'd be worried about what they are running into on the net. Maybe you should negotiate to have the notebook in your room, but no internet.

my parents doesnt let me have the computer in my room because they said that i might be doing bad things on the internet , download music , weird stuff .... and talking to strangers ... they dont want us to see any of tose things so they need not allow you to put in your room because they dont know what you will be doing in your room

Easy, pack up and leave just like what I did all those years ago. You're 18, pretty much your own person, in 3 more years you won't need a fake ID to enter the bar anymore.

Doesn't matter if you're a girl, live under their roof and follow their rules. Live under your own roof, party on every night.

I think I'll just stick to sneaking it in and hope that I wouldn't get caught

Don't have the money to live on my own, yet.

Maybe you could try going on exchange for university.

I've been away from home all year. Practically on the other side of the world too...

Sydney, Australia ---> Quebec, Canada
